Right ventricular function by strain echocardiography.

چکیده
PURPOSE OF REVIEW Right ventricular (RV) function is an independent determinant of prognosis in a number of pathologies, but its accurate quantification by echocardiography remains a challenge. With the evolving clinical utility of RV strain and strain imaging, several studies have used it to investigate normal and pathologic conditions. However, marked shape adaptations of the RV and the wide range of possible loading conditions complicate the interpretation of findings, which will be highlighted in this review. RECENT FINDINGS RV strain and strain rate measurements have been proven feasible and found to offer potential advantages over traditional indices. They allow regional function estimation with less influence from the left ventricle (LV) or overall cardiac motion. However, there are contradictions in recent studies regarding expected values and regional patterns, which may be attributed to differences in imaging techniques but also to the challenging interpretation of findings. SUMMARY Strain and strain rate have a great potential for a more accurate description of RV function and a better understanding of its pathology. The imaging techniques are ready for translation into the clinical arena, but their greatest utility will only be realized once diagnostic values are more clearly defined.

Evaluation of Right Ventricular Function by Tissue Doppler Echocardiography in Asthmatic Children
BackgroundAsthma is the most chronic inflammatory disorder of the airways in children and asthmatic patients can experience cardiac dysfunction, pulmonary hypertension and finally cor pulmonale later in life. We aimed to investigate Right Ventricular (RV) functions in asthmatic children by conventional and tissue Doppler echocardiography (TDE).Materials and Methods Pulmonary function tests, con...
متن کاملThe influence of Asthma on Right Ventricular Systolic and Diastolic Function in Children according to Tissue Doppler Echocardiography
Introduction:Asthma is the most common chronic inflammatory condition affecting the lower airways among children. Asthma may influence right ventricular (RV) function and patients may develop right ventricular hypertrophy, pulmonary hypertension and cor pulmonale. The main objective of this study is to determine RV dysfunction in asymptomatic asthmatic children as detected by ti...
متن کاملComparison of Fetal Echocardiography for Fetal Cardiac Structure in Women with Gestational Diabetes Mellitus and Normal Pregnancies
BackgroundIncreased metabolic rate of hyperglycemia in gestational diabetes causes macrosomia, which can also affect the fetal heart. The thickness of the walls of the heart and its function in women with gestational diabetes mellitus (GDM) can change over time before treatment. We aimed to evaluate fetal cardiac structure in terms of ventricular wall thickness and its function in women w...

Background: Cardiac dysfunction due to chronic anemia and hemosiderosis are the major causes of death among patients with thalassemia intermedia. This study was performed to compare the cardiac function in thalassemia intermedia patients with normal subjects by means of echocardiography. Materials and Methods: This was a case-control study performed on 22 patients affected by thalassemia int...
متن کاملRight ventricular Hemodynamic Alteration after Pulmonary Valve Replacement in Children with Congenital Heart Disease
Introduction: In patients who underwent surgery to repair Tetralogy of Fallot, right ventricular dilation from pulmonary regurgitation may be result in right ventricular failure, arrhythmias and cardiac arrest. Hence, pulmonary valve replacement may be necessary to reduce right ventricular volume overload. The aim of present study was to assess the effects of pulmonary valve replacement on rig...
